Philip Gross reading with Gwyneth Lewis. On The Border begins its Autumn Season with two poets at the height of their powers. Both have published important books this year. Gwyneth Lewis, first National Poet of Wales, produced an imaginative tour de force in her Hospital Odyssey. Meanwhile, Philip Gross was winning both the T.S Eliot prize with The Water Table and the Wales Book of the Year award with I Spy Pinhole Eye, which featured the photographs of pylons by Simon Denison. Two great poets, one grounding feeling in a tapestry of fable, the other summoning magic from muddy water and metal, one from Wales living elswhere, the other from elsewhere living in Wales, each in their own way restlessly inventive, each one constantly breaking new ground. | ||||
